You need to demonstrate control across five areas: boundary firewalls, secure device/software configuration, timely security updates (patches applied within 14 days for critical issues), controlled user and administrator access, and malware protection across all devices, including mobile, cloud services, and home workers' equipment.
Yes. UK-domiciled organisations with a turnover under £20 million are automatically eligible for free cyber liability insurance when they achieve Cyber Essentials certification covering their whole organisation. It's optional, but there's no additional cost if you want it.
Certification is valid for 12 months, after which you'll need to renew. Because the underlying standard is updated periodically, a setup that passed last year isn't automatically guaranteed to pass again, our ongoing retainer keeps you audit-ready between renewals rather than scrambling each year.
Most SMEs complete standard Cyber Essentials in 1–2 weeks once their device and software information is ready. Cyber Essentials Plus adds extra time for scheduling and completing the technical audit, we'll give you a realistic timeline once we understand your setup.
